Zoomcasts – Migration & Civil Society: Ep. 3, Amanda Muñoz de Toro (Co-founder and Executive Director of Fenix Aid )

On March 4th, 2022, the Migration & Civil Society line met with Amanda Muñoz de Toro, co-founder and Executive Director of Fenix Aid, an NGO specialised in holistic legal aid for asylum seekers in Greece. The Zoomcast touches upon the current situation of asylum seekers in Greece, the potential future consequences of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, the lack of political will to trigger the Temporary Protection Directive prior to the Russo-Ukrainian war, as well as the possibilities and limits of pro-migrant strategies of legal mobilisation.


Zoomcasts – Migration & Civil Society: Ep. 2, Maurice Stierl (Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Sheffield and member of the activist network Alarm Phone)

On January 17th, 2021, the Migration & Civil Society line met with Maurice Stierl, Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Sheffield and member of the activist network Alarm Phone. The Zoomcast touched upon migrant struggles, the Mediterranean border, Search and Rescue NGO actors, as well as the relationship between academia and activism.


Zoomcasts – Migration & Civil Society: Ep. 1, with Catherine Woollard (Director of the European Council on Refugees and Exiles)

On December 16th, 2021, the Civil Society and Migration group met with Catherine Woollard, the director of the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), an alliance of 105 NGOs across 39 European countries. The Zoomcast touches upon the role of ECRE in the EU institutional arena, especially in relation to the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, but also addresses more recent developments at the EU’s external border with Belarus.
