Campanha do Dia Internacional da Mulher 2021 (Dia 5 – 12 de Março)
No quinto dia da Campanha da linha de investigação Migração & Género da NOVA Refugee Legal Clinic, contamos com três mensagens que realçam a importância dos movimentos feministas na luta contra as desigualdades, discriminações e objectificação da mulher.
A mensagem de Inês Brusselmans (atual Miss Portuguesa e finalista do curso de Direito, voluntária na Santa Casa da Misericórdia e ativista contra o racismo, bullying e pela saúde mental) destaca a importância de defender os direitos humanos, os direitos das mulheres e a igualdade de género, uma vez que “independentemente do género” a todas as pessoas “são concedidos os mesmos direitos”.
A mensagem de Ana Ventura (ilustradora, modelo, influencer e ativista feminista, anti-racista, anti-homofóbica e anti-fascista) destaca que a importância do dia internacional da Mulher, o qual “deve ser celebrado todos os dias por homens e mulheres”, realçando a importância da luta “contra a desigualdade, o desfavorecimento e objectificação” da mulher e a luta “por uma sociedade mais feminista”.
A mensagem de Rita Costa (modelo, estudante de relações internacionais, feminista interseccional e defensora da universalidade dos direitos humanos) alerta que o facto de “trabalhar na área da moda pode vir a ser um impedimento para muitas opções” dentro da sua área de estudos. Como afirma Rita, “isto não deveria ser assim, se fosse um homem isto não seria assim, é exatamente por isto que o feminismo é importante, nós somos muitos mais do que as caixas às quais nos tentam reduzir”.

On the fifth day of the campaign of the line of research on “Migration and Gender” of NOVA Refugee Legal Clinic, we publish three messages stressing the importance of the feminist movements to fight against inequalities, discriminations and women’s objectification.
The message from Inês Brusselmans (current Miss Portugal, LLB finalist student, volunteer at Santa Casa da Misericórdia and activist against racism, bullying and activist for mental health) stresses the importance to stand for human rights, women’s rights and gender equality, emphasizing that “regardless of gender” everyone “is entitled to the same rights”.
The message from Ana Ventura (illustrator, model, influencer and a feminist, anti-racism, anti-homophobic and anti-fascist activist) pinpoints the importance of the international women’s day, which “must be celebrated every day by men and women”, stressing the importance of fighting against “inequalities, discrimination and women’s objectification” whilst fighting for “a feminist society”.
The message from Rita Costa (model, undergraduate in international relations, intersectional feminist and advocate for the universality of human rights) points out that her “work in the fashion industry might be an obstacle to pursue other options” in her study field. She carries on by stressing that “it should not be like that, if I were a man it wouldn’t be like that, this is exactly why feminism is so important, we are much more than the labels we are given by society”.

No quarto dia da Campanha da linha de investigação “Migração & Género” da NOVA Refugee Legal Clinic, contamos com três mensagens que realçam a importância dos movimentos feministas na luta contra as desigualdades, discriminações e violência sexual e de género.
A mensagem da Professora Doutora Margarida Lima Rego, Subdiretora da NOVA School of Law e uma das fundadoras e membro da plataforma feminista “Coisas do Género”, relembra “que o dia 8 de Março é um dia de luta que celebra o ativismo pela igualdade de género em todo o Mundo”, realçando que “as mulheres podem ser migrantes por fugirem à violência de género nos países de origem” e destacando ainda que por serem mulheres migrantes podem estar mais expostas e vulneráveis à violência de género.
A mensagem de Miguel Vale de Almeida, antropólogo do ISCTE e do CRIA e igualmente um dos fundadores e membro da plataforma feminista “Coisas do Género”, salienta a importância dos movimentos feministas ao realçar que a perspetiva feminista promove uma “interpretação crítica do Mundo com base numa desigualdade patente entre homens e mulheres”, reforçando a importância do dia internacional da mulher, pois é “nas mulheres que está centrada a questão fulcral da luta pela igualdade”.
A mensagem da Mariama Barbosa, apresentadora e comentadora de televisão, RP e feminista, defensora de causas humanitárias e sociais, incluindo anti-racismo, igualdade de género e os direitos humanos, destaca a importância de “ensinar as gerações mais novas e futuras para que tenham um bom comportamento social”.

On the fourth day of the campaign from the line of research on “Migration and Gender” at NOVA Refugee Legal Clinic, we publish three messages stressing the importance of the feminist movements to fight against inequalities, discriminations and sexual and gender-based violence.
The message from Professor Dr. Margarida Lima Rego, Associate Professor and Vice Dean of the NOVA School of Law, and one of the founders and member of the feminist platform “Coisas do Género”, reminds us that “March 8 is a day of struggle and of the celebration of the activism for gender equality worldwide” whilst emphasizing that “women may become migrants to escape sexual and gender-based violence in their countries of origin”, and as migrants, they are also more exposed and vulnerable to sexual and gender-based violence in the host-communities.
The message from Miguel Vale de Almeida, anthropologist at ISCTE and CRIA, and also one of the founders and member of the feminist platform “Coisas do Género”, highlights the importance of feminist movements and of the feminist perspective to promote a “critical thinking of the World, based on gender inequality between men and women”, while stressing the importance of the international women’s day because “women are crucial for the fight for equality”.
The message from Mariama Barbosa, TV host and commentator, PR, feminist and activist for social and humanitarian causes (including anti-racism, gender equality and human rights) reminds us of the importance of “teaching the younger and future generations to adopt a righteous social behaviour “.
Campanha do Dia Internacional da Mulher 2021 (Dia 3 – 10 de Março)
No terceiro dia da Campanha da linha de investigação Migração & Género da NOVA Refugee Legal Clinic, contamos com três mensagens que alertam para a necessidade de refletir sobre os impactos de múltiplas violências que afetam as mulheres, em particular as mulheres migrantes e refugiadas.
A mensagem de Raquel Varela, Professora Universitária e investigadora na Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, destaca a especial vulnerabilidade das mulheres refugiadas e migrantes, bem como a tragédia no Mar Mediterrâneo “transformado num cemitério”, realçando que esta situação “não pode continuar sob pena de toda a nossa humanidade e cada um/a de nós estar em causa”.
A mensagem de Paula Cosme Pinto (feminista, blogger, Communication & PR e autora da Crónica no Expresso “A vida de Saltos Altos”) destaca a violência sexual de género que assimetricamente vitimiza as mulheres, destacando que “o dia internacional da mulher é um dia simbólico de resistência” e que, apesar de a “luta ser da condição feminina (…), todas e todos temos o dever coletivo de participar nela por um mundo mais justo e equilibrado”.
Por último, a mensagem de Raquel Sampaio (modelo, apresentadora e ativista pela igualdade de género) frisa que “ser mulher requer coragem, requer garra, mas é uma luta que vale a pena travar” para que “um dia ser mulher deixe de ser uma luta”.

In the third day of the campaign of the line of research on “Migration and Gender” at the NOVA Refugee Legal Clinic, we publish three messages pinpointing multiple types of violence which impact women, especially migrant and refugee women.
The message from Raquel Varela, Professor and researcher at NOVA University, highlights the special vulnerability of refugee and migrant women, as well as the tragedy in the Mediterranean Sea “turned into a graveyard” stressing that this situation “cannot carry on, otherwise our humanity and each one of us will be at stake”.
The message from Paula Cosme Pinto (feminist, blogger, Communication & PR and the author of “A vida de Saltos Altos”) stresses that sexual and gender-based violence asymmetrically victimises women and therefore, “the international women’s day is a symbolic day of resistance” and underlines “this struggle is for women’s status (…) all of us, women and men, have the duty to participate to assure a fairer and more balanced world”.
Finally, the message from Raquel Sampaio (model, tv host and activist for gender equality) stresses that “being a woman requires courage, strength, it is a fight, but one it is worth fighting for”, to ensure that “one day being a woman is no longer a struggle”.

No segundo dia da Campanha da linha de investigação “Migração e Género” da NOVA Refugee Legal Clinic, contamos com duas mensagens para assinalar a importância da igualdade de género durante o ciclo de asilo.
A mensagem da Juíza Conselheira do Supremo Tribunal de Justiça, Doutora Clara Sottomayor, destaca a situação vulnerável de mulheres refugiadas que “fogem da guerra no seu país, mas não conseguem fugir da violência machista estrutural a todas as sociedades, e é este mundo patriarcal que atravessa continentes que temos de vencer”.
A mensagem da Embaixadora de Boa Vontade do Fundo das Nações Unidas para a População (UNFPA) e Presidente da Associação Corações com Coroa, Catarina Furtado, destaca “as mulheres refugiadas e imigrantes que são as mais vulneráveis entre as mais vulneráveis. É fundamental dizer-se que a pandemia, infelizmente, veio não só destapar as desigualdades com base no género, como também agravar e acentuar as desigualdades no que diz respeito, por exemplo, às diferentes formas de violência e discriminação”.

On the second day of the campaign of the line of research on “Migration and Gender” at the NOVA Refugee Legal Clinic, we publish two messages stressing the relevance of gender equality throughout the asylum cycle.
The message by the Supreme Court Judge, Dr. Clara Sottomayor, highlights the vulnerable situation of refugee women who “flee the war in their home country but cannot escape the structural violence transversal to every society and rooted in the patriarchal world, which is transversal to all continents, and that we must defeat.”
The message by UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador and President of the Association Corações com Coroa, Catarina Furtado, stresses that “refugees and immigrant women are the most vulnerable among the vulnerable population. Furthermore, the pandemic not only shed a spotlight in gender inequalities, but it also aggravated and enhanced inequalities which lead to different forms of violence and discrimination”.
Campanha do Dia Internacional da Mulher 2021 (Dia 1 – 8 de Março)
Para assinalar o Dia Internacional da Mulher, a linha de investigação “Migração e Género” da NOVA Refugee Legal Clinic lança uma campanha sobre a importância da Igualdade de Género em contexto de migração e asilo, de modo a prestar homenagem às mulheres, em particular as migrantes e refugiadas, bem como a todas/os profissionais em diversas áreas que atuam em prol da Igualdade.
No dia de hoje, a nossa campanha é marcada por uma mensagem da Ex.ma Senhora Secretária de Estado para a Integração e as Migrações, Doutora Cláudia Pereira. Juntemo-nos à Senhora Secretária de Estado para celebrar “todas as mulheres e, entre todas as mulheres, destacamos as mulheres imigrantes e refugiadas, pelo exemplo de perseverança, luta e resistência”, conforme realçado na sua mensagem.

To mark the International Women’s Day, the line of research on “Migration and Gender” of the NOVA Refugee Legal Clinic is launching a campaign to raise awareness on the relevance of Gender Equality within the migration and asylum context, and also to pay tribute to women, especially migrant and refugee ones, as well as to every professional who works towards gender equality.
Today, our campaign is marked by a message by the Portuguese Secretary of State for Integration and Migration, Dr. Cláudia Pereira. Let us join the Portuguese Secretary of State to “celebrate every woman, especially immigrant and refugee women, for their example of perseverance, endurance and resistance”, as highlighted in her message.
